Tree reefs
In addition to our research into eco-friendly scour protection, we can and want to take more steps towards fully circular nature reinforcement. To do this, we prioritise the use of natural materials and (bio)degradability where we can.
We will build circular and biodegradable reef structures from discarded fruit trees. We plan on constructing these so-called tree reefs at 2 to 4 cable crossings. Fruit trees are relatively sturdy and will provide a stable reef. We will collect the trees from the Dutch fruit cultivation sector, as these would normally be grubbed as soon as they start producing less fruit. The complex structure of the fruit trees is expected to provide habitat for many benthic and fish species. Hereby we hope to stimulate biodiversity in the wind farm.
