We plan to expand the offshore oyster larval network to help spread the indigenous flat oyster. This oyster became extinct in the Dutch North Sea in the 1950s. At the time, their reefs were incredibly valuable to the ecosystem.
Their return will have a positive impact, which is why we will stimulate the dispersal of larvae. To be able to do this as effectively as possible, we will collect information from the flat oyster pilots in the North Sea. We will also encourage the creation of oyster nursery rooms at 2 to 4 cable crossings.
We will closely monitor the development of the larval network and determine our next steps based on these insights.
