TenneT

TenneT is the transmission system operator committed to ensuring a safe and reliable supply of electricity, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to the security of electricity supply, we strive for an affordable and sustainable energy system.

TenneT designs, builds, maintains and operates more than 25,000 kilometers of high-voltage connections in the Netherlands and in large parts of Germany and facilitates the European energy market through 17 electricity highways with our neighboring countries, the interconnectors.
TenneT makes billions of investments in electricity grids and connections on land and at sea. Every day, 9,700 employees work on the electricity system for more than 43 million end users.

North Sea as the green power house

In the future, we no longer want to use fossil fuels and we aim to be less dependent on other countries for generating energy. That’s why TenneT is committed to renewable energy sources that we can generate ourselves. Wind energy, produced in our own North Sea (offshore), is an essential building block for this.

TenneT plays a crucial role in transporting wind energy from the North Sea to the onshore electricity grid. TenneT designs, builds, and operates the high-voltage grid on both land and sea. This enables TenneT to transport electricity from the place where it is generated—such as our offshore wind farm—to millions of households and businesses in the Netherlands and Germany.
