Ecowende and Waardenburg Ecology have teamed up to study seabirds. We know from ecological research that the Great Black-backed Gull is one of 18 seabird species identified as vulnerable to collision with offshore wind farms . While only a few breeding pairs exist in the Netherlands, large breeding populations occur in Norway, and individuals are known to winter in the North Sea. Ecowende’s Hollandse Kust West wind farm will serve as a prime research location to assess whether the ecological impacts of future wind farms can be reduced. GPS-tracking of Great Black-backed Gulls is one of the projects that falls under the ecological research program of Ecowende.

Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn is the first European retailer to make sustainably generated energy available to strategic partners.

Since winning the tender in December 2022 and presenting our holistic approach at WindDay, the Ecowende team has been working diligently on the development of the planned ecological measures and research. To curate these research plans for our wind farm, we are working together with like-minded partners Waardenburg Ecology and WaterProof. As the ecology research plans are crystallising, we welcomed representatives from governmental institutions, NGOs and wind farm developers to our first Ecology Session on Friday 19 April.

GBM Works and Ecowende have signed a contract for the installation of three monopiles in the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) Site VI offshore wind farm using GBM’s noise reducing technology, the Vibrojet®.

In a landmark agreement, non-profit foundation HUB Ocean partners with wind farm developer Ecowende to make ecology data publicly accessible through HUB Ocean’s Ocean Data Platform. This is setting a new standard for transparency in data sharing in the offshore wind industry. The partnership was announced at WindEurope 2024 in Bilbao.

Stichting De Noordzee, Natuur and Milieu, Ecowende, Vogelbescherming NL and the World Wildlife Foundation wrote a position paper about the co-use in wind farms.

Robin Radar Systems, MIDO and DHI, three companies on the forefront of detection systems for and data collection on various birds and bats, are joining forces with Ecowende.

Eneco has concluded an agreement with Japanese company Chubu Electric Power for the sale of a 30% stake in Ecowende, a joint venture between Eneco and Shell. Ecowende is developing a large-scale offshore wind farm that will have a minimal impact on nature. Eneco intends to invest the proceeds of the sale in other renewable energy projects in order to accelerate the energy transition.

After extensive preparation and three years of construction on land and sea, the grid connection for Hollandse Kust (west) Alpha is officially ready for commissioning. This means that Ecowende can connect the wind turbines, which will be located about 50 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee, to grid operator TenneT's 'socket' at sea.

Wind farm developer Ecowende has chosen Vestas as the supplier of the wind turbines for its future offshore wind farm. The Shell and Eneco partnership will build this wind farm on Hollandse Kust (west) site VI, some 53 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden.

Following the announcement about their collaboration, Ecowende is pleased to confirm that Van Oord has been contracted for the construction of the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (west) lot VI.

Ecowende and Sif Holding will collaborate on the construction of Ecowende’s offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust West site VI, located about 53 kilometres off the Dutch coast, near IJmuiden.

On 28 and 29 November, the yearly Offshore Energy Exhibition & Conference (OEEC) took place in the RAI Amsterdam. This year, Ecowende was invited to join one of their panels to share more about the Ecowende project and the wind farm’s perspective on the future of offshore energy.  

Waardenburg Ecology and Ecowende are developing a comprehensive ecological programme for Ecowende’s offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (west) Wind Farm Site VI with partners including WMR, WaterProof Marine Consultancy & Services B.V. and SEAMARCO.

Ecowende and Van Oord will collaborate on the construction of the offshore wind farm on Hollandse Kust (west) lot VI. This will be the most ecological wind farm yet, with minimal impact on the natural habitat of birds, bats and marine mammals, and with a thriving underwater world.
