Taller wind turbines
We will apply a higher shaft height for 60-80% of the turbines, which increases the respective tip height by 5 to 10 metres.
The tip height of wind turbines at a normal height partly overlaps with the altitude at which a number of seabird species fly. Science suspects that a higher tip height will allow birds to move more freely. This way we hope to be able to reduce the risk of (fatal) collisions. Throughout the project, we will compare the effect of taller wind turbines with the behaviour and the number of collisions of birds in areas where wind turbines are at a normal height.
