We know that noise related to the driving of monopiles is the main cause of disturbance of the harbour porpoise. As such, we will explore various innovative noise-mitigating techniques for the installation of the monopiles.
For example, we will utilise an alternative method in which we will drive piles with a vibro hammer using vibrations. In addition, at 3 foundations, we will test an innovative method in which the vibro hammer is supported by ‘jetting’. Jetting is a technique that uses water jets to ensure that the monopile faces less resistance from the soil during the installation. This reduces the probability that a conventional pile-driver, which makes a lot of noise, is needed.
